KFU to host Summer University project again this year

This time the event is scheduled for 21 July – 3 August and co-organized with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia and FGANU Sociocenter.

The participants are going to join tracks in digital technology, engineering, humanities, and other areas.

The Summer University is open for students of 3rd and 4th years of bachelor’s programs aiming to get acquainted with Russian and Tatarstani culture. The criteria for selection are motivation, proficiency in English and/or Russian, and academic performance. The registration page will open on 12 May. The Summer University is part of the Youth and Children National Project.

Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev comments, “It’s essentially a summer school for Russian and international students. The event will take up two weeks. 300 foreign nationals and 100 Russians are to arrive to our University, including young people from Central Asia, Belarus, Oman, Mongolia, China, Egypt, Morocco, Indonesia, Abkhazia, and other countries.”

Last year, 3,000 applications were received, so only one in ten applicants succeeded.

A number of tracks this year are under the aegis of the Association of Asian University, where Rector Lenar Safin is currently a rotating chairman. Two tracks are dedicated to Russian language and culture and indigenous peoples of Russia, as well as the history of the Turkic world.

“There are going to be other tracks as well. One of them is organized for a first time by the Institute of IT and Intelligent Systems and Belarus State Technological University and dedicated to Big Data – in English and Russian,” adds the Vice-Rector.

Other tracks are going to cover local architecture and design, evolution, and first aid (the latter also in two languages).

“The program promises to be very rich and interesting. The guys will come here, stay in the dormitories of our university. Of course, we will demonstrate our traditional hospitality, provide logistics, meals, cultural and excursion programs and, of course, training. The task we set for ourselves is to attract talented people for further study at Kazan University. Having finished their bachelor’s degree, they have an opportunity to consider the possibility of enrolling in a master’s or post-graduate program in a Russian university, first of all, in KFU. Here the participants of the Summer University will be able to get acquainted with our laboratories, infrastructure, living conditions and get an impression of what it means to be a student in Kazan, especially in summer days, when the capital of Tatarstan is especially beautiful,” concludes Dr Alishev.
