Migration registration – visa entry

In order to legally stay on the territory of the Russian Federation all foreign citizens must get a migration registration at the place of stay (residence). It is necessary to submit documents for migration registration (in other words – to obtain registration) within the deadlines established by migration legislation after crossing the border of the Russian Federation.
Migration registration (registration, tear-off part of the form on the arrival of a foreign citizen), which is issued upon arrival in the Russian Federation, as well as its further extension should be carried out at the actual place of stay (residence). If the address of stay (residence) and the address of migration registration (registration) are different, this would be a serious violation of migration legislation. Violation of the terms of application for migration registration and its extension is also a violation of migration legislation.
Documents need to be submitted for migration registration (registration):
- at each new entry into the Russian Federation (when a new migration card is issued when crossing the border of the Russian Federation);
- In case of hospitalization
- In case of change of place of stay or residence (hostel, hotel, apartment, sanatorium, rest home, etc.).
You have just arrived in Russia, you have a new migration card in your hands:
Migration registration (registration) of foreign citizens from the visa-required countries, living in the dormitory of KFU
After your arrival in Russia, you are obliged within the prescribed period* (from the day of arrival) to appear in person at the Department of External Affairs, Kazan, Gvardeiskaya str. 9, and provide the following documents:
- Passport (original)
- Migration card (original)
- Rental contract for a dormitory (original)
- Supplementary rental contract for a dormitory (original)
- Education contract or the referral by the Russian Ministry of Science anf Higher Education on the Russian Government Quota or a certificate from the study on a state-funded basis, an employment contract (for employees of KFU)
All documents submitted must be valid. All copies are clear and legible. If these rules are not followed, the documents will not be accepted!
Migration registration (registration) of foreign citizens from the visa-required countries, living in rented apartments
If you live in a rented apartment, you need to apply to the owner (host) and provide him/her with the following documents to extend your registration at the regional Migration Department:
- Passport
- Migration card
- Original certificate of student status (valid for 14 days)
- Previous migration registration (registration)
- Solicitation from KFU
To receive a solicitation you should apply to the Department of External Affairs of KFU, Gvardeiskaya Str. 9, Kazan. Please bring your passport + a copy of pages with your data and the validity of your passport.
Migration registration (registration) is issued for the duration of the visa.
* The prescribed period for application for initial migration registration for foreign citizens of visa countries is 7 working days from the date of arrival in Russia.
Extension of migration registration (registration)
Please apply for the extension of migration registration earlier, do not wait for the expiration of the migration registration!
Extension of migration registration (registration) of foreign citizens from the visa-required countries, living in the dormitory of KFU
After receiving your extended visa, the Passport and Visa Support Office of the KFU Department of External Affairs extend your migration registration within 3 working days from the date of receipt of your extended visa.
If you have changed the address of your residence (moved to another place) by this time, you must immediately notify the Passport and Visa Support Office about this fact.
Extension of migration registration (registration) of foreign citizens from the visa-required countries, living in rented apartments
If you live in a rented apartment, to extend the migration registration you must re-apply to the owner (host) and provide him/her with:
- Passport (with extended visa)
- Migration card
- Original certificate of student status (valid for 14 days)
- Previous migration record (registration)
- Solicitation from KFU (valid for 14 days)
To receive a solicitation from KFU you should apply to the KFU Department of External Affairs at Gvardeiskaya Str. 9, Kazan. Please bring your passport + a copy of pages with your data and the validity of your passport.
If you decide to change your place of residence (move to another address) before the expiration of your migration registration, you must register at the new address within 7 working days.
Extension of migration registration (registration) is carried out within 3 working days from the date of the receipt of the extended visa (see Renewal of Russian visa).
