Nikolai Lobachevsky Scientific Library is a gem of the University. It was established at the end of the 18th century. During its 200-year history, the library has accumulated over five million volumes, including 150 thousand old and rare units.

Kazan University Nikolai Lobachevsky Scientific Library has one of the world’s most important bibliographical collections, including 15,000 manus­cripts and 3,000 rare books.

The Library today:

  • in the Top 10 of Russian libraries by size
  • 3rd among other Russian university libraries.

One of the unique elements of the Library is the Department of Rare Books and Manus­cripts. The collection consists of ancient scrolls from the 10th century, some of Europe’s first printed books from the 15th century (incunabula), original editions of Russia’s first printed books, ancient Oriental rare books, and manus­cripts – an invaluable part of a written heritage of the people of the world.

At Nikolai Lobachevsky Scientific Library students may borrow materials, order interlibrary loans and use a number of electronic resources available free of charge. The library has two computer classes for use.

The Electronic Catalogue of the Library gives quick and easy access to the necessary scientific and educational information on any subject in monographs, textbooks, magazines, articles, conference proceedings and other various sources. It is also possible to access the collective electronic catalogues of the leading 15 libraries in Kazan.

Kazan Federal University has regular access to the electronic resources of the leading foreign and domestic publishing houses and aggregators.

The library offers also a range of additional fee-based services. These include e.g. bibliographic editing of the list of references for a diploma or course work.

Library card

To borrow books from the library you need a library card.  Students of Kazan Federal University can get a library card free of charge from the Reading Service Department of the library.In order to get a library card please present the following documents:

  • student card
  • passport
  • one photo (size 3×4)

  • Saturday 9:00 – 17:00
  • Sunday – closed
