BRICS as an International Security Actor Conference held at KFU

The event included a plenary session and two panels devoted to the political, diplomatic, and socioeconomic aspects.

Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev, Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of International Relations, History and Eastern Studies Vadim Kozlov, and Chair of the Department of International Relations, World Politics and Diplomacy Andrey Bolshakov delivered welcoming remarks at the opening.

The Vice-Rector recalled that exactly one year ago, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan hosted the participants of the XVI BRICS Summit, and in 2025, the baton was passed to Brazil. Kazan University, together with a partner university, will soon host a conference in Brazil dedicated to cooperation between the two countries and BRICS, Alishev announced.

According to Andrey Bolshakov, the modern world is moving toward multipolarity. He dedicated his report, presented during the plenary session, to the topic of peacekeeping in the Global South in the emerging polycentric world. The scientist believes that BRICS has significant prospects.

The conference continued with breakout sessions. Scholars, including young scientists, discussed topics such as the impact of BRICS cooperation on international security, the interaction of member countries in the economic, environmental, food, humanitarian, scientific, and cultural spheres, as well as the role of youth policy in shaping diplomatic strategies, expanding the association, and more.
