Materials and Technologies of the 21st Century conference hosted by the Institute of Chemistry

The event dates back to 2000.

According to Institute Director Marat Ziganshin, the conference was conceived as an interdisciplinary event for young scientists from different local universities. This time, it has gathered 260 researchers – from high schoolers to recent PhD awardees.

The conference comprises eight topics: biomedicine and molecular biology, biotechnology and agricultural technology, new materials, chemistry and chemical technology, mathematical modeling and IT, robotic and engineering, cognitive and linguistic technology, and educational technology.

“My report is about proteolytic enzymes of entomopathogenic mycelial fungi Metarhizium anisopliae. The essence of the report is that we find out whether these fungi have the ability to produce fibrinolytic enzymes for the treatment of thrombosis. We have already identified enzymes with the ability to activate plasminogen in the course of the study,” shared Darya Basalaeva, PhD student of the Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University.

KFU master’s student Elina Izbasarova spoke about the contribution of the Parcell effect to the luminescence of Ce0.5Y0.35Tb0.15F3 nanoparticles under plasmonic enhancement conditions, “We want to develop a sensor for the detection of low concentrations of analytes, which may be of particular importance in medicine and biology, and used to diagnose diseases in their initial stages. For this purpose, the effect of the presence of gold nanoparticles of different concentrations on the luminescence enhancement of upconversion particles chemically bound to antibodies is being investigated.”

Junior Research Associate of Kazan’s Institute of Organic and Physical Chemistry Gulnur Fazylzyanova‘s report was titled ‘Study of factors affecting the stability of polymer-bitumen binders’, “The biggest drawback of these binders is their delamination. I am trying to find out why this happens, studying the effect of bitumen composition and the effect of polyethylene and looking for methods to stabilize them.”

This year, the conference received additional funding from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.
