Over 150 high schoolers and undergraduates join KFU competitions in Iran

The initiative is supported by Rossotrudnichestvo, Russia’s humanitarian cooperation agency.

This year’s contests were overseen by a delegation comprising Lead Specialist of the Center for Mentorship of Gifted Schoolchildren of KFU’s Department of Education Dinara Safina, Specialist of the Center for Career Consulting and International Cooperation of the Institute of International Relations Yevgeny Klimov, and Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Russian Language of the Preparatory School for International Students Anastasiya Sesorova.

“We are organizing the Olympiad in Tehran together with the Rossotrudnichestvo office in this country for the second time. We are very pleased that this year the University of Tehran became a partner of the project and provided its classrooms for the event. Today about 85 percent of all Iranian students at our university study in medical specialties. One of the goals of the Olympiad is to diversify the fields of study of Iranian students. We want to attract them to science, mathematics, geology, oil and gas, and humanities programs. It is important that Rossotrudnichestvo has decided to take our Olympiad into account when granting quotas this year. Last year, thanks to their victory, several Iranian students also received scholarships in our university. I am confident that we will continue this work in the coming years, and the KFU Olympiad in Iran will receive well-deserved recognition,” commented Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev on the occasion.

The subjects for high schoolers included Russian language, chemistry, mathematics, physics, and for bachelor’s students – IT, petroleum engineering, international relations, economics and management, and Russian language. The Russian language event was the biggest draw, and, as Ms Safina noted, the proficiency shown by participants was surprisingly impressive.

Apart from many cooperation projects, there is also a joint preparatory program offered by KFU in Tehran. The Iranian representation in preparatory courses in Kazan is also very high, with 478 young people currently enrolled here.
