Student of the Year at Kazan Federal University Grand Prix holder Ammar Hussein talks about his path to success

The young man from Iraq in currently in his sixth year of general medicine training.

Concurrently, Ammar works as as nurse at the Republican Clinical Infection Hospital of Tatarstan. He spends much time volunteering.

Speaking about his milestones of this year, Ammar mentions his humanitarian trip to new provinces of Russia and his work with displaced persons from that region. For that, he was awarded the grand prix of the Kind Tatarstan 2022 award. Before that, he had already partaken in many disaster relief efforts in Russia. In 2020, he spent over 3,000 hours in the ‘red zone’ with COVID patients, which is a Russian national record.

Among Ammar’s research interests are ophthalmology and surgery, “Doctors must always be in pace with the newest information. They must incessantly seek that one way which leads to full recovery.”

He commended his peers in the Student of the Year competition, “There are over 50 thousand students at KFU. They are all unique and not easy to compete with. I’ve been joining the contest for three years now, and only this time I decided to apply for the Grand Prix. I thank the Rector, the judges and everyone who lent support. I will do my best to use my knowledge and all the opportunities I received thanks to the alma mater.”

During this year’s ceremony, the best students in 24 nominations received prizes for social activism, arts, sciences, sports, and other merits.
