Student Startup winner Rustam Farakhov assembling 3D printer for extra-firm materials

The PhD student project’s title is ‘Extrusion 3D printer for materials with enhanced mechanical characteristics’.

“To improve polymer adhesion, we are working on a fused deposition modeling technology,” comments Farakhov. “The gist of the technology is that an adhesive material containing carbon nanotubes is inserted between printed layers.”

During this year, the winner plans to improve the technology and create a prototype of a 3D printer with new characteristics.

“An improved 3D printer model is under construction for this purpose. The printing of a base polymer and an adhesive will be performed with different printing heads,” says research supervisor, Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Innovation Management Ramil Kashapov.

Importantly, a relevant patent for such 3D printing process has been obtained.
