Africa Days celebrate arts, sports, and culture

This year’s festival marked the 50th birthday of KFU’s International Friendship Club.

The events kicked off – literally – with a futsal tournament on 21 May, where teams of Guinea, Egypt, Zambia, Cote-d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Chad contested the prize. In the end, Egyptian students emerged victorious.

A debate session then took place on African students returning home from overseas studies and their role in their native countries’ development. Senior student Gilbert Naolissia Aldonove Pouabou was commended as the most skillful debater.

A gala concert took place on 2 June. The students were greeted by Vice-Rector for International Affairs Tmirkhan Alishev. Among those who showcased their performance skills were young people from Nigeria, Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Comoros, and Zambia; special guest appearances were made by Indonesian, Colombian, Chinese, and Russian students.

A Day in Africa Interactive Expo featured games, face painting, African delicacies, and a clothing fair. An award ceremony was held where Egyptian futsal team received its cup.

Graduate student, Coordinator of the Union of African Students of KFU Aboubacar Demba Camara shares, “You can speak days and nights about Africa. Africa is its beautiful nature, cultural and language diversity. Africa is life and love. Africa is family, and Africa is us. I immensely thank the KFU leadrship and the International Friendship Club for supporting student initiatives and celebrating this event with us.”
