President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov talked with KFU students on Russian Student Day

Accompanied by Rector Lenar Safin, the President toured a little expo of student science, volunteering and summer employment squads.

He then proceeded to familiarize himself with the achievements of KFU’s Center for Digital Transformation (CDT), including computer programming, test production site, and a driverless tractor (a joint project with Minsk Tractor Plant). Director of the CDT Dmitry Chikrin also spoke about the Center’s proprietary software, ASDIK, which enhances ultrasound images for the purposes of medical diagnostics. The tool removes artifacts (such as lines, matrix defects, etc.), applies auto focus, improves edge displays, detects and highlights objects of interest and determines their shape and brightness characteristics.

After that, President Minnikhanov visited an open lesson of Tatar language for international students.

Finally, the guest met with students at a tea table. The students asked many questions, including some about the IT industry in Tatarstan, startup support, and others.

The President noted, “Big enterprises of Tatarstan have a huge demand for top-notch workers. Our universities undertake immense efforts to prepare such specialists. As universities and public authorities, we will always back students in their endeavors. As for you, your main priority is to study ardently and acquire knowledge.”

He reminded everyone of a number of existing federal and provincial support projects for education, science, and student entrepreneurship. Of course, they also cover the IT industry, which was of special interest to the audience. The city of Kazan has two huge IT parks with business accelerators, and the adjacent city of Innopolis hosts Innopolis University, the first university in Russia to have been established specifically with cutting-edge IT training in mind.

The event was visited by the best of the best – activists, community leaders, young scientists, winners of international and national contests and competitions, grantees of various foundation, winners of the Student of the Year competitions of various levels.

The President thanked KFU’s leadership for all the opportunities which the University gives them in learning and extracurricular activities. He congratulated everyone on the occasion of the Student Day.
