Academician Alexei Starobinsky passes away aged 75

The dolorous notification came on 21 December.

One of the world-renowned theoretical physicists made immense contributions to relativity theory and cosmic inflation theory. Starobinsky is considered one of the creators of the contemporary outlook on early Universe.

Academician Starobinsky has cooperated with Kazan University for many years. He was an honorary doctor, Chief Research Associate of the Laboratory of Cosmology, member of the International Jury of the Lobachevsky Medal and Prize, and Chairman of the Program Committee of Petrov Readings (an annual workshop on gravity, cosmology and astrophysics). He has been a consultant and active participant in many grant projects.
