Kazan Federal University

Acting Rector Dmitry Tayursky met with Ambassador of Egypt Nazih El Nattary

The talks took place on 20 May.

The Acting Rector presented the university’s current affairs and spoke about cooperation with Egypt. Notably, the Arab Republic is the first nation outside the former Soviet Union to open a full-scale KFU educational unit (as of now, preparatory school of language, but with plans of expansion). There are also over 300 Egyptian students at Kazan University’s main campus.

Among the University’s partners in Egypt are Helwan University, Cairo University, IGDM, ITT Soft, Modern Group, and others. Collaborations are successfully developing in physics, engineering, biochemistry, genetics, agriculture, and materials science.

Ambassador El Nattary noted that educational ties are on the forefront of Russian-Egyptian friendship, “Your research potential is impressive. We see that all the necessary conditions for studies, development, and leisure are present here – and for our students among others. Since the times of the Soviet Union, our young people have studied here and graduated as valuable professionals.”

The guest also showed his care about the living arrangements of Egyptian students in the context of the current global situation, “Our objective is to ease their lives as much as possible. Together with the KFU leadership, I am convinced that we can resolve all issues with payments, accommodation, communication with the homeland, and ensure a smooth and high-quality educational process.”

Dr. Tayursky assured that our university does everything to support international students, informs them and their relatives of the current developments, and is always ready to answer questions.

In other points of the agenda, the two sides discussed possible expansions of KFU’s presence in Cairo. This project is undertaken in cooperation with Modern Group. Among the planned programs are medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and nursing care.

The Embassy of Egypt is ready to support those plans and is also interested in petroleum engineering as another area for expansion. Acting Rector Tayursky mentioned that KFU will also create an engineering school at its Naberezhnye Chelny Institute. The school aims to tighten cooperation between academia and industry.
