First ever C-section with argon plasma coagulator performed at University Clinic

A healthy baby girl was delivered weighing 3.11 kg and measuring 54 cm.

OBGYN of the University Clinic’s maternity ward Raushaniya Zakirova comments, “The advantage of modern surgery, namely the use of the argon plasma coagulation method, is the non-contact transfer of high-frequency current energy to the tissue using ionized gas. Since hemostasis is provided in a non-contact way, this leads to a decrease in blood loss, reparative processes improve, adhesion formation decreases.”

Patient recovery in this case is faster than with a traditional C-section. A new mother can perform everyday movements in six hours after delivery.

The maternity ward assists in 2,000 births every year. Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology Rezeda Sharipova says, “Our operating room has a lamp with a built-in high-resolution video camera that allows you to visualize the entire operation process, which is extremely important for the training of student residents. So, in the lecture hall, students are actively involved in the learning process. In the obstetrics class, there is a discussion of the operation plan, indications for caesarean section in each specific case, the course of the operation, and the study of topographic anatomy. Students ask questions. Thus, they are included participants of the surgery.”
