KFU’s automotive engineering school presented to President of Russia Vladimir Putin

The meeting was held in Veliky Novgorod on 21 September.

Cyber Auto Tech, Kazan University’s engineering school project (AES), was represented by Director of the School Guzel Kapitonova and Deputy General Director of KAMAZ (the School’s industrial partner) Irek Gumerov.

Guzel Kapitonova told the audience that AES is located in Naberezhnye Chelny near KAMAZ facilities, “As for many other cities, the problem of brain drain is pertinent for Naberezhnye Chelny. The AES is one the tools to deal with this problem. KAMAZ poses real practical tasks which help us attract talented young people.”

The School is also supported by the provincial government of the Republic of Tatarstan, which pledged equal funding with KAMAZ. That’s a very significant boost to the project. The focus of the School in the nearest future is on intelligent vehicles, low-carbon footprint automotive production and use, and technologies of intelligent production.

Irek Gumerov noted the objectives that the School and KAMAZ may reach together, “KAMAZ needs qualified workers, infrastructure, funding, and prospective developments. All these are parts of the AES project.”

He said that intelligent transport requires formidable amounts of work in software engineering and AI, “We are finding solutions in Naberezhnye Chelny. The core of our team are people from our city. I am sure such an experience will be successful.”

Among the plans are driverless corridors on existing highways, electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, etc.

In his comments on KFU’s initiatives, President Putn said that Russia is one of the leaders in driverless transport, “This leadership must be maintained and solidified. There are very promising and interesting projects in this area. We really need this.”
