Press tour hosted at Universiade Village to show renovated facilities

Local journalists visited on 11 July to see buildings 16 and 17 and talk to students.

Director of the Department of Youth Policy of KFU Yuliya Vinogradova and the Director of the Student Campus Radik Nikolaev then answered questions. Of the 14,000 dormitory dwellers at KFU, 9,000 live in the Universiade Village.

“This past academic year, renovations were carried out in a number of dormitories in the campus and the Universiade Village. Before making repairs, we always conduct monitoring,” said Vinogradova. “This academic year, the Department of Youth Policy together with the trade union committee and student councils of dormitories held a monitoring and a number of strategic sessions to improve living conditions for dormitory renters – over 50 percent of them participated.”

Renovations included both repairs and works on new facilities, especially for social activities.

Earlier, the Universiade Village buildings underwent minor renovations in 2019, ahead of the World Skills Championship (including wall paint and floor coverings).

Radik Nikolaev described exactly where the repairs took place, “At the moment, repairs have been completed in the Student City dormitories No. 3 (block 3 and 4), No. 4 (right wing), No. 6. In addition, buildings No. 15, 16, 17 of the Universiade Village have been repaired and students have been moving in since July 1. House No. 15 has 87 rooms (315 beds), House No. 16 has 90 rooms (316 beds), House No. 17 has 87 rooms (313 beds). In total, 264 rooms for 944 beds have been repaired in three dormitories of DU”

He added that in the near future students are expected to move to dormitory No. 4 (left wing) of the Student City, where repairs.

During the renovation, the building has undergone tremendous changes, and Nikolaev told about them in detail.

According to him, during the renovation of the Universiade Village buildings, the hallways were painted in accordance with the KFU brand book, and the entrance groups started to look very modern. But the biggest changes were in the rooms. The walls were painted in pleasant light colors, modern blinds took the place of old blinds, and kitchens and bathrooms are now looking great. The tiles on the walls and floors in these rooms have been replaced. In addition, all the bathroom fixtures were replaced with new ones and showers were installed in place of bathtubs. In addition, the rooms now have new drawers and shelves.

Ekaterina Kovyazina, a student of the Institute of Physics, was one of the first to move into a renovated room.

“During the renovation in our dormitory, I lived over two months in another dormitory. But, of course, I wanted to return to my native 17th building of the Universiade Village, because I have a lot of friends here. This dormitory was good before, and now it’s even better,” the student said.

She informed that she came to Kazan from Ufa. When choosing a university, she paid attention to the dorm conditions, and she is very glad that she lives in the Universiade Village.
