Professor Alexander Elizarov named Distinguished Worker of Science of Russia

Such a high honor was last bestowed on a KFU employee 15 years ago.
As he shares, Elizarov has been an employee of Kazan University (most recently of the Institute of IT and Intelligent Systems) for 45 years, “It would have been impossible to reach such heights without support from alma mater. Much has been done at our mathematics departments, and this includes things accomplished with my participation. This has found commendation on the federal level, which is, of course, very pleasant to know.”
Among other things, Professor Elizarov headed KFU’s now defunct Lobachevsky Research Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics. He was also a founder in 1996 and is the current chief editor of Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics – now one of the prominent specialized journals in Russia.
He is an expert in mathematical modeling and inverse boundary value problems. He has co-authored over 500 publications, including 8 monographs and more than 250 journal publications. Elizarov is a member of Russian National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, American Mathematical Society, German Society of Mathematicians and Mechanicians, and International Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He is also a member of three doctoral dissertation boards and has prepared 18 candidates of sciences (PhDs) and 2 doctors of sciences (DScs).
Overall, the title of the Distinguished Worker of Science is awarded on average to five persons a year in the entire country.
