Rector Lenar Safin speaks with KFU’s partners from Oman and Venezuela at the 2026 Tatarstan Petrochemical Forum

The event takes place at Expo Kazan from 26th to 28th August.

Following the business program on the opening day, Lenar Safin attended one of the largest petrochemical exhibitions, “KAZAN: OIL, GAS, CHEMISTRY,” where over 200 companies from 24 Russian provinces and 4 countries presented their projects and solutions. Our university is a mainstay of the exhibition since its inception.

At the university’s booth, the Rector met with representatives of the largest oilfield services and oil and gas companies from Oman and Venezuela.

In particular, these included Omani companies such as Ras Al Hamra and Al Amjad Trading Company, as well as Venezuela’s PDVSA.

During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding cooperation in a number of relevant areas.

In particular, KFU and Al Amjad Trading Company won a bid for the development of enhanced oil recovery methods. This is currently a pressing issue worldwide.

Lenar Safin noted that the implementation of new technologies in this area and their introduction in the Middle East is a major step toward technological leadership.

As for PDVSA, Kazan University signed a memorandum of understanding with the company in 2024. The parties plan to further develop the partnership by implementing joint projects in personnel training and scientific research, including in areas such as geological exploration, well lifecycle, and consulting on high-viscosity oil production.
