Snow Squad recovers new remnants of Great Patriotic War in Leningrad Oblast

This last trip by volunteers to Tosno District covered the areas where Soviet Union’s 54th Army waged war with the Nazi invaders in February 1943.

Three students were led by Head of Snow Squad search party, KFU alumnus Ayrat Fatykhov.

Student Marat Martyanov comments, “I always wanted to partake in expeditions and have been interested in the history of the Great Patriotic War. The Snow Squad’s activities are very important to preserve the memory of our ancestors and their feats.”

During the search, the squad members recovered personal belongings, such as helmets, pots, plates, mugs, spoons, gas masks, whetstones, and other stuff.

KFU’s Snow Squad has been engaged in search parties twice a year, in spring and autumn, since 2008. The whole search party movement has been in place well over thirty years. Starting in 1999, the Lyuban Expedition, part of the volunteer movement specializing on the 54th Army and its activities in Leningrad Oblast, has since recovered and buried the remains of 4,600 warriors.
