Three young scientists receive 2022 Zavoisky Award in physics

The results are traditionally announced on 28 September, Yevgeny Zavoisky’s (1907 – 1976), discoverer of electronic paramagnetic resonance, birthday.

This 22nd award season featured 10 finalists, who presented their five-minute reports and answered the jury’s questions. Jury Chairman, Professor Albert Aganov, noted the high level of submitted research.

In the Applied Research nomination, the prize went to Associate Professor of the Department of General Physics Almaz Sayfutdinov (‘Kinetics of fast electrons in a negative glow plasma of a glow discharge and its gas analytical applications’).

In the Fundamental Research category, the winner is Associate Professor of the Department of General Physics Ruslan Batulin (‘Optical spectroscopy of barium atoms and ions in superfluid 4He and practical applications of low temperature physics at KFU’). “Such research is only possible in three laboratories in the world, and one of them is stationed at Kazan University,” said Professor Aganov.

Another prize for fundamental research went to Associate Professor of the Department of Radio Physics Alexander Shemakhin and Senior Research Associate of the Laboratory of Quantum Photonics and Metamaterials Anton Kharitonov.

The Zavoisky Award for Young Scientists is co-organized by Kazan Federal University, Kazan Physical-Technical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Committee for Children and Youth Affairs of the City of Kazan. PhD (Candidate of Science) degree holders under 35 years of age are eligible.
