Consultant Professor Boris Kochelaev congratulated by several generations of colleagues and students on 90th birthday

A special concert evening was arranged in his honor on 19 April.

The concert, titled Professor Show as per the tradition, was emceed by Director of the Institute of Physics Marat Gafurov.

“I have been and will be a student of Boris Kochelaev’s, of which I will be forever proud. He now also acts as a senior friend, one who can give advice and support. He built my life starting from 3rd year of the Faculty of Physics. I want to wish him health and happiness,” said Chair of the Department of Theoretical Physics Yury Proshin.

He noted that mentors and students are forever linked. And the honoree has many students. Some of them came from afar to personally congratulate him.

“I admire his intelligence, inner strength, and the integrity that Boris Kochelaev oozes. The knowledge and expertise that he relayed to us not only remained in memory but also help in our life until this day,” shared Oleg Garbuzov.

On the anniversary occasion, a special issue of Magnetic Resonance in Solids will see light – comprising exclusively papers by Kochelaev’s colleagues and students.

Boris Kochelaev was born in Kazan in 1934, graduated from Kazan State University and started teaching here in 1958. Among his awards are For the Virgin Lands Campaign (1958), Order of Labor of the Red Banner (1976), Veteran of Labor (1983), Order of Honor (2005), State Prize of Tatarstan in Science and Technology (2007).

He was bestowed degrees and titles of Doctor of Science in Physics and Mathematics (1968), Professor (1970), Distinguished Worker of Science of Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1984), Distinguished Worker of Science of Russia (2000), Honorary Professor of Kazan University (2004).

Boris Kochelaev has been chairman of doctoral dissertation boards, member of AMPERE Society International Committee, member of the Scientific Board on Magnetism of the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of research in resonance properties of condensed matter at KFU, longtime peer reviewer at Physical Review and Physical Review Letters. He founded the Magnetic Resonance in Solids journals, now part of Scopus and Web of Science databases, and still is its chief editor.

In 1973 – 2000, Kochelaev chaired the Department of Theoretical Physics. He has consulted 33 PhD degree holders, of which 11 went on to receive a DSc degree. Kochelaev is a multiple winner of Russian Presidential grants, including a special scholarship from 1999 to 2005.

Kochelaev continues to work as Consultant Professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics.
