2021 Kazan Golovkinsky Stratigraphic Meeting

This year’s conference is dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the discovery of the Permian system and takes up 18 – 22 October.

The meeting is titled after Nikolay Golovkinsky (1834 – 1897), first professor of geology at Kazan University and pioneer of Paleozoic research in the Volga region. He postulated the fundamental law of facies variability of sedimentary basins, which is the basis for contemporary sequence stratigraphy.

The Permian system is the only one to have been discovered on the Russian territory. Permian layers of Russia have significant deposits of hydrocarbons and minerals.

During the opening ceremony on 18 October, it was mentioned that KFU’s Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies has become a powerhouse of stratigraphic research in recent years.

The forum has gathered contributors from Russia, USA, Germany, China and other countries.
