Engelhardt Observatory visited by representatives of Russian National Tourist Union

The meeting with Rector Ilshat Gafurov was arranged on June 25.

A number of questions regarding tourist activities at KFU were discussed. Rector Gafurov mentioned that the Engelhardt Observatory and related astronomical facilities will hopefully enter the UNESCO World Heritage List soon. They were included in the preliminary list.

“This event was preceded by a longtime high-quality effort by our specialists,” said the Rector. “A very important characteristic of Kazanian observatories is the preservation of all the instruments used for research. We are content with this result, which gives us further prospects for the promotion of Kazan University.”

The guests were introduced to a number of projects implemented at the Engelhardt Observatory. For instance, a planned multifunctional center of astrophysics will be aimed at popularizing natural sciences. The center will offer educational programs, infotainment, thematic events, and exhibitions.
