Kazan University to join European ChEMoinformatics+ program

The network program is to be supported by Erasmus+.

The consortium is coordinated by the University of Strasbourg and unites almost every university with a chemoinformatics program, including Kazan Federal University, NOVA University of Lisbon, the National University of Kyiv, the University of Milan, the University of Paris, and the University of Ljubljana.

Associate Professor, Senior Research Associate Timur Madzhidov comments, “KFU is represented with its program in chemoinformatics and molecular modeling at the Institute of Chemistry. Our master program was chronologically the third in the world – and the only in Russia so far.”

ChEMoinformatics+ is planned to last six years and is set to support student and teacher mobility, international cooperation, exchange of study materials, and best practices.

“The program participants will be able to study at three universities,” explains Madzhidov. “First, they’ll have to pass the entry process, take exams and enroll in a chemoinformatics program at their chosen institution. For example, at KFU, such a student will spend one year in Kazan, then one semester at the University of Strasbourg, and one more semester at another university. They will acquire fundamental knowledge at Kazan University, then take special courses in Strasbourg, and then present their master thesis at the third university. Since we have a double degree program with the University of Strasbourg, our students will receive two diplomas in this case.”

The tuition fees are going to be covered by the European Union. The students will also receive a stipend and partake in all schools, conferences and other events organized by the consortium free of charge. Job fairs are also in the plans.

“As educators, we will be able to visit each other’s universities and read lectures there, exchange study materials and experience, conduct join research. International events within the consortium will also be funded by the program,” concludes Dr. Madzhidov.

The first enrolment is scheduled for 2022.
