KFU student wins special prize at inaugural Medical Student of the Year award

The final ceremony was held in Khanty-Mansiysk on 29 November.

Fifth-year general medicine student Ammar Hussein was among the recipients of the event’s diplomas. Over 1,000 applications were submitted from across Russia, and 100 finalists were invited to Khanty-Mansiysk for the on-site competition.

The five stages of the competition were Self-Introduction, Case Task, Business Game, Med Talks, and Project Lab. Apart from the three first places, there were four special prizes, one of which went to our student.

Ammar Hussein says that he was impressed by the incredible expertise shown by his peers in the finals. He said that he ended up outside of the winners’ podium because of a smaller number of publications.

“I received support on my social networks and over 250 nice comments – that’s the real victory to me,” he shares. “I was interested to show myself and to get acquainted with brilliant people.”

Ammar returned to Kazan from the contest and went to a COVID ward, where he works as a nurse, straight from the airport. He hopes to stay here after studies because he now thinks of Kazan as his home.
