Kazan Federal University

Marat Ziganshin introduced to team as new Director of the Institute of Chemistry

He speaks about his perspective on the nearest objectives.

According to him, the Institute currently lacks infrastructure for applied research.

“The Institute’s longtime experience shows that serious engagement of high schoolers in career development is essential,” says Ziganshin. “We have to give a new boost to this work, including a more active involvement of our young employees.”

During the course of his career, the new appointee has been on the juries of many high school and higher school competition in chemistry. Some of the winners of those events are currently studying or working at the Institute of Chemistry.

“We must accompany secondary schoolers from their junior year to their DSc theses. It’s a continuous cycle of training,” continues Dr. Ziganshin.

Interestingly, over 60 percent of today’s Institute employees are young scientists.

“We have to prepare experts in interdisciplinary research with regards to economic efficiency, chemical and biological safety. Contemporary chemists must be proficient in biology, informatics, environmental sciences, and even robotics,” opines the interviewee.

Ziganshin’s team of physical chemists currently studies biocompatible nanostructures and materials based on short-chain oligopeptides.
