International Forum on Russian Language and Literature as Means for the Shaping of Russian Identity and International Integration

The forum is being held by KFU on 2 – 8 April.

The opening ceremony on 4 April featured Counselor to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Presidential Council on Russian Language Vladimir Tolstoy, Depity Prime Minister of Tatarstan Leyla Fazleeva, Rector of KFU Lenar Safin, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Culture of the State Duma of Russia Sergey Shargunov, and others.

Rector Safin noted the role of Kazan University in the history of national philology, specifically the well-known Kazanian school of linguistics and literature studies, “Our scientists today continue those wonderful traditions, and the University conducts sizable educational events and research. As a result, KFU improves its standing in international rankings each year. In 2023, it entered the global top 150 in linguistics, top 200 in English language, and top 250 in modern languages.”

The Forum is supported by the Government of Tatarstan and the Raisian (Gubernatorial) Committee on Russian Langauge of Tatarstan. It is co-organized by the International Association of Russian Language and Literature Teachers (IARLLT), the Russian Association of Russian Language and Literature Teachers (RARLLT), and the Association of the Unions of Writers and Publishers of Russia (AUWPR). Among the international contributors are representatives of China, India, Italy, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, and other countries.

The Forum’s three main parts are:

  • International Conference on Russian as a Foreign Language: History, Contemporaneity and Future;
  • regular meeting of the RARLLT;
  • inter-provincial creative workshop for writers of the Volga Federal District by AUWPR.
