KFU to continue Lobachevsky Program for science internships

Throughout the year, Kazan Federal University continued implementing the Lobachevsky Program, aimed at attracting talented young scientists to work in the university’s priority areas. The program is funded through Priority 2030 resources. Thanks to it, five invited researchers came to Kazan in 2025. All of them were employed in KFU’s leading research laboratories.

The Institute of Chemistry welcomed three experts from the People’s Republic of China. Associate Professor Faruk Muhammad Umar from the Faculty of Chemistry at Chengdu University of Technology and Associate Professor Muhammad Shoayb from the Faculty of Physics and Electrical Engineering at Chuxiong Normal University conducted joint seminars and scientific consultations at the Laboratory of Materials for Hydrogen Energy and Traditional Energy with Low Carbon Footprint. They also participated in the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference Ecology of Industrial Cities and prepared several papers together with the laboratory’s Chief Research Associate Rustem Zairov.

Professor Evgeny Zhuravlyov from Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST) is participating in the Lobachevsky Program for the second time. In April 2025, he accompanied the Chinese university’s delegation led by the vice president during their official visit to KFU. In December, the scientist came to his colleagues at the Ultrafast Calorimetry Laboratory to install an adapter for calorimetric measurements and improve the software of the SPARK FSC system, which he developed. His plans include publishing a paper with Associate Professor of the Department Physical Chemistry and Timur Mukhametzyanov.

Two scientists worked at the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology. Research Scientist Diksha Sharma from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology conducted comprehensive computational analyses to identify immunogenic markers of orthohantaviruses at the Laboratory of Gene and Cell Technologies. Under the supervision of the laboratory’s Senior Research Associate Emmanuel Kabwe, she performed a series of experimental studies in immunology. Research Scientist Ruslan Garifullin from the Department of Aviation Engineering at the University of Turkish Aeronautical Association conducted a step-by-step study of supramolecular chirality in self-organizing peptide nanostructures at the Laboratory of Biomedical Technologies.

To improve the program’s effectiveness, KFU’s International Office conducted a survey among the participating institutes and departments.

“We will continue implementing the program this year. There is work to be done. However, we are confident that with the support of the university’s Academic Board, we can promptly address issues to make the stay of invited specialists at our university even more comfortable,” commented Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev.
