Students discover unique artifacts of Pyany Bor culture during summer internship

The research expedition, held at Kipchak archeological complex near Minnyarovo village in Aktanysh district of Tatarstan, was joined by Vice-Rector for Comprehensive Security Rishat Guzeirov and headed by Associate Professor Ruzil Sattarov. Apart from KFU students, the group included employees of Tuva Institute of Humanities and Applied Socio-Economic Research and Kushnarenkovo Museum of History and Local Studies.

The Kipchak complex comprises three archeological sites representing Pyany Bor culture. During these latest diggings, the group found necklaces, fragments of kitchenware, bronze casting molds, bones, spindles, parts of clothing, and arrow heads.

A field workshop was organized on the pertinent problems of the archeology of the Hun-Sarmat period in the Kama region, along with two lectures on ancient clothing of the local peoples.

In Minnyarovo village, Dr Sattarov spoke at the local event center, familiarizing schoolteachers with the Kipchak complex and the importance of its heritage. He noted that Pyany Bor culture is one of the most fascinating in our province, partly because it has so many imported items, such as Roman drinking ladles.

The Pyany Bor culture, which belongs to the Finno-Ugric group, was discovered in late 19th century by Kazan University employees.
