Heads of Russia’s advanced engineering schools convene in Naberezhnye Chelny

The discussion seminar started on 6 April.

The event featured Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Valery Falkov, Rais (Governor) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Rector Lenar Safin, General Director of KAMAZ Sergey Kogogin, and other executives.

Governor Minnikhanov noted the importance of engineering schools as pillars of technological sovereignty. He reminded that the Republic of Tatarstan will be a home to 3 such schools, one of which is KFU’s Cyber Auto Tech automototive engineering school (CATAES).

Sergey Kogogin emphasized how KAMAZ sees it as imperative to deepen its integration with universities and research centers. KAMAZ is CATAES’s strategic partner – the two participants aim to prepare professionals for the Kama Industrial Cluster, of which KAMAZ is a focal part. The cluster produces about 5% of the nation’s GDP in the secondary sector and plans to double its output by the year 2030.

CATAES has three priority areas – intelligent transport, low-carbon footprint vehicles, and intelligent production technology.

In 2023, KFU has big plans for the School’s campus. A new laboratory building will be raised, and new dorm facilities will be offered to students and educators.

For the next academic year, CATAES plans to introduce 5 educational programs. Apart from that, a new driverless traffic system for intra-territorial transportation is being designed for KAMAZ plants.

By 2025, the partners should unveil locally produced electric trucks and first solutions in hydrogen fuel elements.

Minister Falkov urged the leaders of engineering schools to exchange best practices and work out unified methodologies for such schools.

The discussion seminar also includes another set of meetings on 7 April in Almetyevsk, Tatarstan’s oil industry center.
