International students of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies get to know migration rules and regulations

A special meeting was organized for the newcomers at KFU.

Institute director Danis Nurgaliev addressed the young people, «You arrived in Russia to get knowledge. For your stay and studies to be successful and smooth, you need to abide by certain rules. With that, you’ll be able to achieve your goals. And you have a plethora of opportunities for self-development. At our institute, we have many foreign employees who contribute to the Russian economy. And conversely, we are often pleased to meet our alumni in various countries, those who returned after graduation to their homeland. These people know Russia well and speak Russian. And speaking Russian at a certain level is indispensable for performing well academically. We want to impart our knowledge to you, and your objective is to acquire it.»

Deputy Director for Academic Affairs Andrey Teryokhin informed the audience that the institute has a Russian conversation club for international students.

He then proceeded to explain that in-class presence for full-time students is mandatory and gave instructions on how to ask for a leave of absence in emergencies. Dr Teryokhin also emphasized that Russia’s migration regulations are quite stringent, including visa extension deadlines, registration procedures, fingerprint registration, medical checkups, etc. If one is inattentive, a violation may lead to fines and, in the worst cases, deportation.

In conclusion, head of the International Office’s Migration Support Unit, Vladimir Surchilov, gave more detailed instructions about the most important migration legislation.
