Freshmen start settling in dorms

The check-ins started on 24 August.

The enrollees must arrive to the central campus, where they receive instructions on life safety and dorm regulations and then get distributed to their respective rooms. After that, a medical checkup must be conducted and proper paperwork done in order for the new students to receive keys and dorm IDs. A special introduction meeting is also held for parents who can ask everything about dorm rules, social welfare for students, and other issues.

Eduard Amirov from Volzhsk, one of the cities in the neighboring Republic of Mari El, is going to live in the Universiade Village, “I am very glad. I don’t have much with me now because my check-in is next week. I only have my sweatshirt and good spirits.”

Erika Nazmutdinova‘s home is much further away, in Kazakhstan’s city of Shymkent. She shares, “I chose KFU because I can grow as a journalist here and become a qualified professional. I’ve heard that everything is always explained very clearly at KFU – and this check-in procedure is proof of that. I’ve already made acquaintance with guys from different countries, and there are all very friendly. I like it here.”

Yulia Apanina from Novokuznetsk, Russia, decided to enroll in KFU after having watched a video about our Universiade Village dorms. She is going to study tourism, “I arrived in Kazan yesterday and spent all day touring the city. It’s very beautiful. I hope to find many new friends at the university.”

Arina Novikova from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, plans to become a PR manager, “I am very interested in advertising and social work. KFU is interesting to me because there are many overseas students here. I’m packed with everything I need. And I’ve already bought warm clothers here – they are not needed in Tashkent.”

The longest trip of all the interviewees was made by Aleksey Kiselyov. His native town of Poronaisk, Sakhalin Oblast, is some 8,800 km from Kazan. He plans to become a geography and environmental studies teacher. The freshman says, “The KFU website is very user-friendly. When I filled in the application, there was a checkbox for dorm placement. I also attached my welfare papers – it’s very convenient indeed.”

Overall, KFU offers 14,000 beds for students in 31 dorms, of which 21 are in the Universiade Village in the city’s southeast and 10 in the Student City closer to the city center.
