KFU’s digital projects showcased at the Ministry of Digital Development’s annual meeting

The Ministry of Digital Development of Tatarstan reported last year’s progress at Bashir Rameev IT Park.

The meeting was headed by Rais (Governor) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Vice-Premier of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko (the latter via video conference).

Minister Airat Khairullin presented the annual report and his ministry’s plans for 2024.

In his introductory remarks, the Governor noted that Tatarstan is one of the leaders in digital transformation. He gave a number of orders regarding digital education and reductions of government service provision timeframes. He also emphasized the importance of tailoring the existing higher education programs to the requirements of the labor market.

The accompanying expo featured 27 local projects, including some developed at Kazan University.

One of them was shown by Director of KFU’s Department of Informatization and Communication Sultan Nurutdinov, “The University has started to optimize its HR document turnover. Near the end of last year, we added a Vacation module to our Electronic University system. Employees and department heads can now submit vacation applications through the online system. A service is integrated with Gosklyuch, a mobile e-government service for personal verification. The Gosklyuch will soon be used for other HR documentation purposes. This includes job applications, job contracts, and various electronic applications without paperwork.”

He added that KFU is the first university to integrate Gosklyuch into its business processes, including enrolment applications. In the 2023 admission season, KFU was the first Russian university to fully move its enrolment cycle, from application to tuition contract signing, to an online format.

Another showcased project was an inter-university center for the monitoring of information security. This unique undertaking is supported by KFU, Kazan National Research Technical University, Innopolis University, Kazan State Power Engineering University, and Innostage. Apart from its function as an information security hub, the Center also acts as an internship platform for IT students.

“The students partake in mitigating real attacks on a university infrastructure. Innostage provides software for threat and breach detection. The students can see real attacks and help us fight the. In 2023, KFU successfully fended off 963 cyber attacks,” commented Head of Information Security Service Dmitry Gadelshin.

Students of the Institute of IT and Intelligent Systems and the Institute of Computational Mathematics and IT also contributed to the expo with their initiative to stage hackathons, case championships and other in IT.

The annual meeting concluded with award giveaways to distinguished representatives of the local IT industry.
