Malaysian University English Test now accepted for admission to Kazan Federal University

Following negotiations with the Malaysian Ministry of Education, the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) shall henceforth be accepted in lieu of the English language entrance exam at Kazan Federal University for the 2025/2026 academic year.

MUET is taken by those who need to confirm their knowledge of English when moving on to the next level of education, as well as in their professional activities. The examination board at the Ministry of Education of Malaysia is responsible for conducting the exam.

The test assesses all four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. To ensure international recognition, the MUET standard is aligned with the requirements of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Over more than 22 years of conducting this exam, it has proven the stability and reliability of its standards. Research confirms a high correlation between MUET results and the results of other established English language proficiency tests. Currently, the Malaysian University Entrance Test is recognized by 17 prestigious universities outside the country, including universities in Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, and China. Since 2019, it has been successfully administered in Indonesia, providing greater access to education for students from that country who wish to pursue higher education in Malaysia and at universities in other countries that recognize the exam. More recently, MUET has been introduced with equal success in China, further expanding opportunities for international students in that region.

“The issue of using the Malaysian University English Test in Russia was raised at the second meeting of the Working Group on Education, Science, and Technology of the Joint Russian-Malaysian Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation between Russia and Malaysia,” commented Timirkhan Alishev, Vice Rector for International Affairs. “The introduction of this exam at Kazan University is a great advantage for our university, opening up opportunities for Malaysian youth and young people from other countries in the Asia-Pacific region to enroll in our English-language programs. Undoubtedly, this initiative will make a significant contribution to strengthening the educational partnership between our countries.”

It should be noted that, in order to enroll in basic higher education programs in Russian, foreign citizens, by decision of the examination commission, have the right to use the results of the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TRKI) as the result of the internal entrance exam of Russian as a foreign language. The test results are recognized by the university as the results of entrance exams conducted independently by the university. TRKI is a system of state exams that confirm the level of proficiency in Russian as a foreign language in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
