Year of Pedagogue and Mentor opened with ceremony at KFU

A big gathering was held on the premises of the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication on 14 February.

The ceremony was held by Rais (Governor) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov; among the contributors were Chief of Staff of the Rais Asgat Safarov, Vice-Premier of Tatarstan Leyla Fazleeva, Rector of KFU Lenar Safin, Deputy Chairman of the State Council (Parliament) of Tatarstan Marat Akhmetov, Minister of Education and Science of Tatarstan Ilsur Khadiullin, Aide to the Rais Albert Gilmutdinov, Minister of Digitalization of Public Administration, Information Technologies and Communications of Tatarstan Ayrat Khayrullin and others.

Governor Minnikhanov thanked the educators for their noble labor and noted, “We do everything to advance the teaching professions to new heights. We aim to establish a modernized school both in essence and in infrastructural quality.”

The Rais emphasized the importance of imbuing the new generations with civic consciousness and moral values. He also mentioned that university science should be supported with a focus on involving young people.

Mr Minnikhanov later gave out awards and commendations to educators. Among others, Consultant Professor of KFU Faina Ratner was awarded the Medal of the Republic of Tatarstan for Meritorious Labor.

The guests of the event toured the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication, getting acquainted with its projects in Tatar language teaching, journalism, public relations, and advertising.

In particular, the Governor visited a practice session for students of bilingual pedagogy and a class for future teacher education students. The latter program is run by KFU and the Department of Education of the City of Kazan and involves 400 high school students who have chosen a pedagogical specialization. They learn the basics of the teaching profession at the Institute.

The year 2023 is declared the Year of Pedagogue and Mentor by President Vladimir Putin‘s executive order. It coincides with the 200th anniversary of one of the most famous Russian teacher educators, Konstantin Ushinsky (1823 – 1871).
