Planned Center for Judaic Studies discussed with representatives of Jewish community

They met with Rector Ilshat Gafurov on July 21.

The guests were Chief Rabbi of Tatarstan Yitzhak Gorelik, Supervisor of Kazan Synagogue Alexander Kantor, and Rabbi Mordechai Kantor (Chairman of the Jewish Youth Community at the Higher School of Economics, Moscow).

Center for Judaic Studies has long been in KFU’s plans, and the concept was shown, in particular, to Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar on June 6.

Yitzhak Gorelik noted that such centers promote Jewish education and general information about Jewish history and traditions.

Ilshat Gafurov spoke about existing programs pertaining to Eastern Orthodox and Islamic studies. The Center for Judaic Studies, as he mentioned, will be a great help to both Jewish people in learning their history and all others who wish to be more knowledgeable about Jewish culture.
