KFU high schoolers place first in 11th Open Republican Field Olympiad of Young Geologists

Fersman, the KFU IT Lyceum team, was the best among 38 competitors.

The program comprised 6 days and 11 stages, including hydrology, search route, camping, mineralogy, paleontology, and computer modeling.

According to team coach, teacher of life and safety education Alexander Kulikov, one of the most exciting tasks was to describe a geological object. This year, the guys visited Stavropol Krai to describe Mount Beshtau. Among other events, paleontology seems the most challenging because it implies meticulous work with university-level material.

The Fersman team has been in place for a long time now, and previous generations share their expertise with newcomers.

Next week, the teenagers are going to Perm Krai to join the 15th All-Russian Open Field Olympiad of Young Geologists as representatives of Tatarstan.
