Rector joins annual ceremony of the Tatarstan State Award in Science and Technology

Today, on the eve of the Day of Russian Science, the annual ceremony to honor the winners of the Republic’s State Prizes in Science and Technology, as well as scientists awarded state honors of Tatarstan, took place in the Kazan Kremlin.

The awards were presented by the Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. The event was also attended by the Rector of Kazan Federal University, Lenar Safin.

Notably, three teams of scientists, among them representatives of KFU, were recognized for their work.

For the series of scientific works titled “Mathematical Models and Digital Twins of Multiphase Flows to Improve the Efficiency of Oil Field Development and to Create Innovative Porous Materials, the following were honored: Konstantin Potashev, Chair of the Department of Aerohydromechanics at the KFU Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics; Shamil Zaripov, Chair of the Department of Ecological Systems Modeling at the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Biotechnology; Renat Mardanov, Associate Professor at the Department of Aerohydromechanics; and Valery Sharafutdinov, former Professor of the Department of Ecological Systems Modeling.

In addition, the honorary title “Honored Scientist of the Republic of Tatarstan” was conferred on Oleg Sherstyukov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Chair of the Department of Radiophysics at the Higher School of Cyber-Physical Systems and Applied Electronics of KFU’s Institute of Physics.

The Rais of Tatarstan congratulated the laureates, emphasizing that those gathered today were the best representatives of the province’s scientific community who have made a significant contribution to the development of domestic science.

“I thank each of you for such important and necessary work. I am confident that implementing your ideas and developments in real life will give an impulse to the further development of Tatarstan and the country as a whole,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

He also noted that Tatarstan’s universities and the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences are systematically expanding their presence within the most important strategic programs for developing Russia’s higher education and science. These include the national projects Youth and Children and Efficient and Competitive Economy, the Priority 2030 program, the federal project Advanced Engineering Schools, and other major initiatives. As a result, according to the Rais, Tatarstan today holds third place in the national ranking of the scientific and technological development of the country’s regions.
