KFU’s Catalyst Factory visited by Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia

The catalyst factory of Kazan Federal University became another location in the program of the official visit of Valery Falkov to Kazan.

Currently, 70% of petrochemical catalysts are supplied from abroad to Russia, which is a problem in terms of strengthening the country’s independence from imported developments and various components for production.

The President of Russia has set a task to ensure technological sovereignty of the state, and industrial enterprises together with scientific and educational organizations actively undertook its implementation with the support of federal programs.

To date, KFU has a number of developments that have practical application in the chemical industry. The University’s Catalyst Factory, established in 2022 on the basis of the Laboratory of Adsorption and Catalytic Processes as part of the Priority 2030 program, produces components for large industrial petrochemical enterprises. In particular, 24 tons of catalysts have already been produced for SIBUR. Another 10 types of catalysts have undergone pilot testing and will be introduced into production in the near future. There are also 6 catalysts at different stages of development.

During the visit, Valery Falkov, accompanied by the Rector Lenar Safin, toured the pilot catalyst production shop, where he was shown the production lines and capabilities of the Factory.

The factory has all the necessary equipment to realize the full technological cycle of catalyst production, and close integration with enterprises allows to scale up domestic laboratory technologies, develop and introduce Russian catalytic systems into industrial practice.
