Afghanistani education officials visit KFU as part of Shaping the Future Forum

The delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Higher Education for Academic Affairs Zia Ulrahman Alaryubi.

The delegation also included Suleiman Neshar, Director of International Relations and Scholarships at the Ministry of Higher Education. The guests were accompanied by Yevgenii Kaigorodov, First Vice Rector of Altai State Pedagogical University, and Alexander Seleznyov, Senior Lecturer at the Department of English Philology of said university.

Traditionally, the visit of foreign delegates began with a tour of the Kazan University History Museum, after which Vice Rector Timirkhan Alishev gave a presentation on the key areas of our work.

“The Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Afghanistan visited our university. He was interested in the development milestones of Kazan Federal University, in particular the results of the process of the merging of various universities during its formation. Today, Afghanistan is planning to improve its higher education system, including developing a policy of consolidating universities and directing available resources to the country’s leading universities,” Alishev said.

In addition, the functioning of KFU’s foreign branches and professional development programs were discussed. 14 Afghanistani students are currently studying at Kazan Federal University, including those on state scholarships.

“Motivated and talented young people come to us from this country,” Dr Alishev emphasized. “Among applicants from Afghanistan, there is traditionally high competition both through Rossotrudnichestvo and for fee-based education.”

As a gift, KFU presented the guests with coins dedicated to the university. One of them depicts the main building of the university, which will celebrate its 200th anniversary this year, the second depicts the Engelhardt Astronomical Observatory, and the third depicts the outstanding mathematician and former rector of Kazan University Nikolai Lobachevsky. The reverse side of each coin features the monogram of the university’s founder, Emperor Alexander I.

The visit continued with a tour of the Emperor Ballroom and the Lenin Memorial Classroom.
