Memorandum of understanding signed with Islamic University in Uganda

Lenar Safin, Rector of Kazan Federal University, met with Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, Rector of the Islamic University in Uganda.

The meeting was held as part of the 5th Kazan Global Youth Summit at KFU. The parties discussed cooperation in science and education.

Furthermore, from 2027 to 2029, the university will coordinate the activities of the Russian-African Network University (RAFU), which, according to Rector Lenar Safin, will give new impetus to its work with scientific and educational centers on the African continent. Currently, KFU hosts 2,200 young people from 34 African countries.

“We view RAFU primarily as a practical mechanism for developing educational, scientific, and academic ties between Russia and African countries,” emphasized Dr Safin. “We would certainly be delighted to see the Islamic University in Uganda among the consortium members. This will allow us to more quickly move from bilateral agreements to specific joint educational and scientific projects, academic exchanges, and specialist training. I am confident that today’s meeting will mark the beginning of a long-term, meaningful, and mutually beneficial partnership between our universities.”

Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, in turn, expressed his sincere gratitude for Kazan University’s commitment to international students and the opportunity they have to come to Russia, to Kazan, to study here, and to receive a high-quality education.

“We are extremely interested in collaborating with KFU and see good prospects for collaboration in medical education, teacher education, Islamic studies, engineering, and oil and gas technology,” the visitor noted.

At the end of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the universities.
