KFU to partake in FAST project to advance digital healthcare

Kazan Federal University, Gazprombank, and LIFT Center signed a trilateral agreement on cooperation in science and education.

Rector Lenar Safin participated in the signing on 26th August. The event took place at Expo Kazan as part of the Tatarstan Petrochemical Forum 2026.

This agreement will create a sustainable platform for collaboration between the university, a private biomedical technology research center, and one of Russia’s largest financial institutions.

The goal of the collaboration is to combine the parties’ potential to address strategic challenges in education, scientific research, and the implementation of advanced engineering technologies.

Specifically, the agreement covers the development and commercialization of innovative projects in new healthcare technology.

Specifically, this includes joint research in biomedicine, diagnostic methods, and analytical software.

Particular attention will be paid to technological collaboration to develop the FAST project, Russia’s first platform for quantitative AI-based assessment of fibrosis.

Overall, this project aims to generate and process transcriptomic data to identify informative biomarkers and new therapeutic targets.

In other words, the joint effort aims to create a platform that transforms data on muscle tissue gene function into practical biomedical insights: from sample acquisition and RNA sequencing to the discovery of biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets.

The platform will be tested on muscle samples from laboratory animals and biopsies (small tissue samples) from patients to compare normal and pathological muscle conditions, identify molecular signatures of degeneration and repair, and then use them for early diagnosis and more personalized treatment of muscle diseases.
