The guests arrived on October 23rd, led by Vice-President of HNU Tang Fanggui.
The visit started with a traditional tour of the History Museum, the Emperor Ballroom, and the Memorial Classroom; the guests also walked to the Lobachevsky Library’s courtyard to look at the statue of Confucius, installed here during the 2024 BRICS Summit in Kazan. They were accompanied by representatives of the International Office and Specialist of the Center for Advanced Training of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies Yury Nurmeev, who served as guide and interpreter.
A meeting then followed with KFU executives, including Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Yekaterina Turilova, Director of the International Office Olga Vershinina, and Deputy Director for Research of the Institute of Psychology and Education Shamil Sheimardanov.
Dr Turilova spoke about the University’s history and current advancements, mentioning the upcoming 200th anniversary of the first reveal of non-Euclidean geometry in a publication by Nikolay Lobachevsky, longtime rector (1827 – 1846) and one of the most outstanding alumni of Kazan University. She mentioned KFU’s in-house secondary schools, a kindergarten, and territorial branches. At this moment, there are 1,861 Chinese students at KFU, she said.
As for teacher education, the Vice-Rector spoke in detail about our distributed model, where teachers are trained at specific institutes, such as the Institute of Physics or the Institute of Chemistry, but the disciplines related to pedagogy and psychology are taught and supervised by the Institute of Psychology and Education.
Dr Tang replied that pedagogy and psychology are the foci of Hengyang Normal University, and he and his colleagues are eager to learn about KFU’s experience in this area.
