Naberezhnye Chelny Institute and Haier enhance their strategic partnership to train engineers

Kazan Federal University’s Naberezhnye Chelny Institute hosted a delegation from Haier led by Li Honglin, Director of the Haier Industrial Park.
The main outcome of the visit was the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement. The document lays the foundation for long-term collaboration in education and research between the institute and one of the leading companies in Russia’s household appliance and electronics market. Institute Director Andrey Keller signed the agreement on behalf of the university.
The agreement provides for joint activities across several key areas, ranging from professional training and continuing education to collaborative research and development. The parties agreed to create conditions for improving the quality of training in relevant fields and to organise joint conferences, seminars, and exhibitions.
For KFU’s Naberezhnye Chelny Institute, which has traditionally focused on polytechnic education and serves the entire Kama urban agglomeration, cooperation with Haier represents a new stage in its educational mission. The institute currently meets the workforce needs of the mechanical engineering sector and its anchor partner, KAMAZ. However, new sectors related to consumer electronics and electrical engineering are expanding rapidly in the region.
The director emphasised that electronics manufacturing is expanding worldwide and that this field is among the institute’s top priorities. He also noted that the institute is interested not only in vocational training but also in introducing new higher education programs, particularly in microelectronics, digital technologies, air-conditioning systems, and fluid dynamics. The institute intends to adapt its educational infrastructure to support this objective.
The parties also discussed joint research. The institute is ready to draw on the research expertise and infrastructure of its specialised schools and laboratories to address the company’s practical challenges.
Haier’s representatives, in turn, highlighted the importance of this step. Li Honglin said that cooperation with the institute had recently been discussed at a high-level meeting between the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan and the Governor of Shandong Province, where the company is headquartered.
“Our cooperation also received support at that meeting. We very much hope that, through this partnership, we will be able to develop the workforce we need for further growth and productive work in the years ahead,” Mr Li said.
According to him, Haier needs personnel at every level, from production workers to researchers capable of developing new products.
“Haier is one of the well-regarded employers in Naberezhnye Chelny, offering stable and engaging work for young people. We are interested in training skilled workers, specialists with secondary vocational qualifications, and, especially, university graduates. We are delighted to have this opportunity to work with you,” the Industrial Park Director concluded.
Following the formal meeting and the signing ceremony, the guests toured the Cyber Auto Tech Advanced Engineering School, located on the institute’s campus. The delegation visited its state-of-the-art laboratories and learned about the latest technologies developed by university researchers. The parties discussed how the institute’s established research teams could help the company improve production efficiency and optimise its technological processes. The visit marked a concrete step towards creating a new regional centre of expertise where fundamental science and industry will work hand in hand.
