KFU joined 2nd Forum of University Rectors of Kazakhstan and Russia in Almaty, Kazakhstan

The event was organized on 28 – 29 March.

The forum was joined by Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Konstantin Mogilevsky, and rectors of 50 Russian and 40 Kazakhstani universities. KFU was represented by Vice-Rector for International Affairs Timirkhan Alishev.

The plenary part of the forum was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Within its framework, in addition to plenary speeches, a number of documents were signed. Among them was the Agreement on academic mobility in the field of implementation of foreign internship programs for doctoral and postgraduate students between KFU and Eurasian National University. In addition, the two sides confirmed that Abay Center for Kazakh Culture will be opened at KFU this year.

Panel discussion Digitization of Higher Education: Trends and Implementation Strategies was held at Kazakh National Research Technical University. It was moderated by Timirkhan Alishev, who presented the experience of digital transformation of Kazan University.

Agreements were then signed with Alikhan Bokeikhan University and North Kazakhstan University.

“A memorandum of understanding and a student exchange agreement were also signed with the Academy of Logistics and Transport in Almaty, the only industry-specific transport higher education institution in Kazakhstan. Currently, KFU is starting to train specialists in transportation logistics. The beginning of this cooperation may become the basis for internship programs for teachers and students, taking into account the importance of Kazakhstan as a transport corridor between Russia and China,” commented Dr Alishev.

KFU currently hosts 421 students from Kazakhstan, including 15 PhD students.
