Leaders of two Pakistani universities hold talks with Rector of KFU Lenar Safin

As part of KazanForum, on 16 May Kazan Federal University was visited by a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan headed by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi Khalid Iraqi and the Vice Chancellor of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology Zabta Khan Shinwari.

At the meeting with Lenar Safin, the parties discussed issues of strengthening and further development of mutually beneficial cooperation.

“Kazan University traditionally pays increased attention to the development of relations with the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and in the last few years we have been actively developing interaction with universities and research centers of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Speaking about the development of cooperation, I very much hope that all our plans will take footing. We expect that in continuation of the first Pakistan-Russia International Conference held in Karachi in February this year, we will also be able to successfully organize the second conference with the Federal University of Urdu within the framework of KazanForum next year,” Dr Safin said.

The Pakistan-Russia conference had a fairly wide scope. The event was attended by representatives of about 30 universities from the two countries. In addition to Kazan University, Russia was represented by such leading universities as Financial University, Moscow State University, MGIMO, RUDN, St. Petersburg State University and others. On the Pakistani side there were representatives of higher education institutions from Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Jamshoro.

Besides, KFU has developed close fruitful relations with the Standing Committee of Ministers for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of OIC countries – COMSTECH, chaired by the President of Pakistan. The issue of opening an OIC-COMSTECH coordination center in Russia on the premises of Kazan University is currently under consideration.

“I am convinced that our steps to strengthen cooperation between universities will be the basis for prosperity and further development of friendly Russian-Pakistani relations”, concluded Lenar Safin.

The Rector of the University of Karachi, in turn, highly appreciated the potential of KFU and generally noted the trend of increasing interest in Russian culture and education among the population of Pakistan.

“The University of Karachi is one of the most developed universities in Pakistan. And today I see more and more opportunities for our young people to study and receive high-quality education in Russian universities. The world is becoming more open and people see very well Russia’s huge role in building a new reality based on the principles of justice and equality. Thanks to this, a veracious understanding of your country’s politics and the opportunities it can give to other nations in various spheres is formed,” emphasized Khalid Iraqi.
