Rector Lenar Safin holds talks with President of Peking University Gong Qihuang

A meeting was held in Moscow at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China on 18 April.

“I am very glad to see how the horizons of knowledge about our glorious university, its potential, and the projects we are successfully implementing at the current stage of development are expanding at the moment. We have established good relations with Chinese partners in various areas of activity. On the basis of official agreements we actively cooperate with 32 leading universities, research centers and companies in China. In turn, about 2,000 Chinese students study at KFU, and student exchange programs are actively developing,” noted Rector Safin while talking about cooperation between Tatarstan and China’s provinces.

He congratulated the Chinese colleagues on the upcoming 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic and invited them to the 220th anniversary celebrations of KFU in November 2024.

President Gong said that he is glad to cooperate with one of the leading Russian universities and emphasized that Peking University specializes in fundamental research.

“We want to establish the Russia-China Academy of Fundamental Sciences together with your universities and hope that KFU joins the project. We are convinced that such a notable university can play a major role in our joint initiatives,” shared the President.

The two sides then signed a memorandum of understanding to conduct joint research, establish educational programs and internships, and exchange students and staff.

The Rector later joined a welcome reception on the occasion of the PRC Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng‘s visit to Moscow.
