Rector Lenar Safin’s meeting with Rector of Bahria University, Vice Admiral Abid Hameed
As part of their official visit to the 4th Kazan Global Youth Summit (26 – 30 August, 2026), the Pakistani colleagues met with Lenar Safin. The two sides discussed partnerships in research and education.
The Rector of Kazan University noted that the university places special emphasis on interaction with countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. KFU currently has over 13,000 international students from 101 countries, a significant part of whom are from OIC countries.
“We value the fact that our students include Pakistani citizens and are interested in significantly increasing their number,” Lenar Safin emphasized. “The university has agreements with four leading Pakistani universities, including Bahria University, cooperation with which we plan to significantly expand.”
According to him, the most promising areas of collaboration are geosciences, ecology and climate change, marine research, artificial intelligence and computer science, and medical education.
Abid Hameed, in turn, added that Bahria University, despite being founded by the Pakistan Navy, is currently actively developing, and its research is not solely focused on naval issues.
“Today, the university brings together over 20,000 students, as well as strong engineering and medical schools. However, we are making steady progress toward becoming a classical university, strengthening both humanities and natural sciences. Kazan University, in turn, impresses with its breadth and the presence of its own schools and research traditions in all fields of science. Therefore, we would like to develop our cooperation in areas such as jurisprudence, international law, clinical psychology, economics and management, and linguistics,” the Rector stated.
The heads of both universities also discussed the implementation of academic exchange programs, double degrees, and the possibility of student interaction through club activities, joint conferences, and summer schools.
