Two KFU scientists visit Venezuela to join university opening



Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Pharmacology, Senior Researcher of the Center for Preclinical Research Renata Kazakova and Professor of the Department of High-Molecular and Organoelement Compounds Irina Galkina took part in the First International Congress on Scientific Convergence for a Common Future, which was held on May 29–30, 2025, in Caracas (Venezuela). The congress was timed to coincide with the grand opening of the Dr Humberto Fernández Morán National University of Sciences.
The new university will become a scientific and educational center in 16 fields, including physics, nuclear physics, oceanology, biotechnology, mathematics, and other disciplines.
As part of the event, Dr Kazakova gave a presentation in Spanish on the development of innovative antiseptic agents based on pyridoxine for the treatment of infections caused by resistant microorganisms. In her presentation, she spoke about the experience of Kazan Federal University, the activities of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology, and the traditions of the Kazan school of chemistry.
The event took place at the Simón Bolívar Park Conference Center in La Carlota with the participation of the President of the Republic of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro, the Vice President for Science, Technology, Eco-Socialism and Health Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez, and the Minister of Higher Education Ricardo Sánchez. In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of strengthening scientific education as the foundation for the country’s sustainable development.
During the visit to Caracas, the delegation held a working meeting with Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Venezuela. They discussed issues of international scientific and technical cooperation aimed at strengthening friendly ties between the countries and promoting their harmonious development.
The parties also reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of building a multipolar world based on respect for sovereignty, justice, and mutually beneficial cooperation in strategically important scientific fields.
