Renovated Loza café open for business

The historical eatery in the Main Building is ready to welcome guests after an almost two-year hiatus.

Café manager Kakhaber Kutalia shared on 9 February, the first business day of the establishment, “We studied the tastes of local clients before compiling our menu. Today, we offer chicken noodles, khashashuli, khinkali, khachapuri, salads, and much more. The menu will become wider in the future, including borscht, solyanka, chakokhbili, and various cakes.”

Among the first visitors was Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Pharmacology Alfiya Fattakhova, “I am very glad the café has reopened. A buffet kiosk was a bit insufficient. There was always a long queue there. We wanted to give way to students so that they wouldn’t be late for lessons, and they thought it their duty to give way to us. Here, everything is quite delicious. I am waiting for pastry to appear.”

Sophomore student Bogdan Berdnikov opined, “I thought such an opening was long overdue in our building. The assortment is quite unusual, and everything is delicious. I am content with the quality and the prices.”

Freshwoman Sofia Shutenko was attracted by the diner’s interior which famously features two low reliefs of the University’s famous employees – mathematician Nikolay Lobachevsky and physicist Yevgeny Zavoisky.

Third-year student Sherzod Bazarbaev found something reminiscent of his home country, “It was my first ever time tasting khinkali. I liked them very much. We have a similar dish in Uzbekistan called manty. My pal bought khashashuli and was likewise pleasantly surprised. We definitely will frequent this place because everything is tasty, and the price is palatable.”

Head of the Personal ID Unit Svetlana Grosheva noted she already plans to return soon, “They promised to prepare lobio on Friday, and that’s one of my favorite meals.”

The café in the Main Building (Kremlyovskaya 18) waits for guests Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
