9th Dormitory of the Student City awarded as best student dwelling of the year at Kazan University
Inhabitants of the 9th received the Student of the Year at KFU prize as Best Student Council of a Dormitory.
The competition comprised two stages – a portfolio and a self-introduction. Student Council chairperson Liana Gilmieva was in charge of collecting info and applying for the nomination. Together with her friends, she wrote a speech and made a presentation. “I was very nervous, but the presentation turned out excellent. My team did their best to support me,” says she.
Dorm student councils work on improving living conditions in dorms, keep in touch with maintenance departments and dorm management, and keep their peers up to date about important events at their dorm.
The 9th house currently hosts 570 students. It is located in the Student City, an older complex of KFU dormitories constructed in the Soviet Union years. They are conveniently located in the city center and are 10 minutes away from the central campus by bus. Headed by the Student Council, dorm dwellers organize social events, volunteering initiatives, and environmental awareness days. As Lilia Gilmieva notes, the students from the 9th are particularly passionate about helping animal shelters.
“This commendation gives us the understanding that we move in the right direction; it’s a great motivation to develop further and to be more fervent in benefaction for students,” concludes the interviewee.
